Elder Election
Hello COAH,
This Sunday is an important marker for our church as we will be having the election of elders from KM. On April 12, we will be having an election for elders from COAH. But as we come on Sunday, let’s come with prayerful hearts. Though one might say that it is difficult to elect candidates that we may not know, let’s cover this process with prayer, trusting that the Lord is leading our church. We must participate in electing elders. There are no KM or COAH elders. All elders are Young Nak elders. They are elected to lead our church. So, if you are a signed member, come on Sunday with the readiness to vote and elect.
According to the New Testament, elders are responsible for the primary leadership and oversight of a church. The function and role of an elder is summarized well by Alexander Strauch in his book, “Biblical Eldership”. He writes, “Elders lead the church [1 Tim 5:17; Titus 1:7; 1 Peter 5:1-2], teach and preach the Word [1 Tim 3:2; 2 Tim 4:2; Titus 1:9], protect the church from false teachers [Acts 20:17; 28-31], exhort and admonish the saints in sound doctrine [1 Tim 4:13; 2 Tim 3:13-17; Titus 1:9], visit the sick and pray [James 5:14; Acts 6:4], and judge doctrinal issues [Acts 15:6]. In biblical terminology, elders shepherd, oversee, lead, and care for the local church” (16).
Wow, that’s a lot. It’s not an easy task. That is why we must pray for our elders. And pray for those who will be elected in this upcoming election, that they will embark on growing and becoming elders according to the Scriptures.
The profiles of the seven KM Elder Candidates will be posted on our Church Center app. So go take a look and pray for each candidate. And let’s together as one church pray that the Lord’s will be done!
With blessings,
Pastor Tim
