Looking for Designers
We have a creative and artistic God. The entire world is the masterpiece of the Creator and the Artist. The beauty of God is woven into every corner of creation. Because of this beauty that fills the world, God is entitled to our praise and glory. His creativity and artistry enrich the lives of His people, and those who belong to Him are also called to live creatively and artistically, and to reflect His beauty in the world.
There are many ways in which God’s people can enjoy and express His beauty. One area that may especially deserve our attention today is design. Almost everything we encounter in daily life is the result of design. From the smallest objects to the spaces we inhabit, and even the elements within those spaces, design plays a role in shaping our experiences. In fact, it is difficult to find anything that has not been shaped by design in some way.
Many aspects of life within the church also reflect thoughtful design; the printed materials such as bulletins and announcement posters; the arrangement of the space within the church building; and the various items used in ministry all call for a sense of design. Our online spaces, like the church website and YouTube thumbnails, also benefit from careful design. When done well, good design can bring joy and add richness to the life of our congregation.
At the same time, the kind of design that serves the church should not be limited to visual satisfaction or convenience. The church needs to present the message of the gospel and the truth of God in a beautiful and meaningful way also. Therefore, we seek to pursue creative and artistic design grounded in the biblical message and shaped by the identity of our church.
With this vision in mind, we would like to invite the next generation of designers within our church to come together. We warmly welcome anyone who is studying design or working in a design related field, such as visual design, graphic design, web design, or spatial design. Our hope is that you can form a team and help develop and strengthen the church’s design needs in the years ahead.
The idea of forming a designers’ group within the church was discussed at last year’s planning session meeting. As we also prepare for our upcoming 50th anniversary, we have become increasingly aware of how many areas would benefit from thoughtful and imaginative design. In the future, we will continue to need creative ideas that reflect the identity and spirit of our church. If we begin preparing step by step now, our already beautiful church will become an even brighter and more welcoming space.
If you are interested, please do not hesitate to reach out to Rev. Seungheon Kim (sh.kim@ynchurch.org). We look forward to seeing a community of next generation designers grow who desire to pursue and reflect the creativity and artistry of God.
Blessings,
Pastor Joshua
