Psalm 119 - Commitment and devotion to God’s Word

As we started 2026, the focus of our special early morning prayer meeting has been on Psalm 119. It is the longest chapter in the Bible with 176 verses, which are divided into 22 stanzas with 8 verses each. The psalm is an acrostic poem, following the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, where every line states the letter of the alphabet, as shown in the picture (Hebrew, you read right to left). Unfortunately, we don’t see this in our English translations.

Psalm 119 celebrates the gift of God’s Word or covenant instruction as the perfect guide for life. By singing and praying this psalm, one can express heartfelt admiration to God, who has graciously given us this great gift to his people.

Psalm 119 stress the goodness of God’s word, how it guides, strengthen, nourishes, encourages, corrects and lead us in life. As Paul wrote to Timothy,

16All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

17that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. [2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV)]

As we continue in 2026, I would like you to encourage you to be committed and devoted to God’s Word, that your posture would be like that of the author of Psalm 119 and see God’s Word giving life to you.

To help with the study of God’s Word, the first Wednesday in the Word (starting January 14th) will be a Bible survey. It will be a short four-week study that will provide you with an overview of the Bible, discuss the types of genres in the Bible, why the Bible is so special, the timeline of the Bible, and a quick summary of each book of the Bible.  It will be a great way to dig deeper into God’s Word in 2026.
